The City of Plainview recently completed a new sidewalk extending from the ballfields concession stand west to just near the edge of the softball fields, to accommodate the new entrance to the north end of the ball complex. The City approved a claim for around $17,000 for the poured concrete, which added the new sidewalk as the road to the east of the Legion field had been removed for use after the paving of Lincoln Ave. The City reached an agreement with the Plainview Brunswick Community Fund recently, with the PBCF releasing effectively the north half of the hay meadow purchased a few years ago from Norda Johnson for the construction plans for the proposed new community building. Parking for the northern fields has been on the hay meadow temporarily until the new building and paving area can be constructed.
Street work
Street work continues on Lincoln Ave. between the City of Plainview’s land that holds the baseball, softball and soccer fields, and the Plainview School’s football field and track to the south. Sidewalks of stamped red concrete are poured on the north and south sides, with drainage channels on the east and west ends, as well as linking the concrete to Pine Street, which was also paved for the project. Total costs have not been determined yet.
